Dear Scouting families,
We are excited to welcome Kevin Nichols to our Council as the incoming Scout Executive starting in January.
As we searched for our new CEO and Scout Executive, we were reminded how critical leadership is, and the impact we have on young people every day as we teach them leadership and life skills. The Scout Executive leads our staff and guides our goals to serve more young people across our 37 communities, to continue operating world- class programs and camps, cultivating supporters to grow our community and continue preparing America’s future for success.
With over 35 years of distinguished service in Scouting America, Kevin has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to grow and sustain membership. Under his leadership, councils have achieved significant milestones, including a 22% increase in Cub Scout membership and a 74% growth in girls’ participation within the Mount Baker Council. Kevin has also been instrumental in developing innovative outreach programs to engage diverse populations, launching successful initiatives such as Hispanic youth programs and maintaining retention rates that consistently rank among the highest in his region.
Kevin’s leadership extends to fundraising and financial management, where he has consistently exceeded goals and strengthened council operations. He has led successful capital campaigns, including a $1.5 million camp construction project and securing a $1 million lead gift for a new campaign. Additionally, he has spearheaded record-breaking product sales and launched creative fundraising initiatives, such as an online auction platform that raised over $438,000. His efforts have ensured fiscal stability and growth, with substantial increases in operating funds, cash balances, and endowments.
A dedicated mentor and strategic thinker, Kevin has inspired countless staff and volunteers, many of whom have advanced to leadership roles. His passion for Scouting, coupled with his expertise in membership growth, program innovation, and financial stewardship, positions him as an exceptional leader for this new role. Kevin is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, earned his Wood Badge beads, awarded the Lamb Award for his service to his church and is a James West Fellow who enjoys visiting our National Parks and outdoor activities of all kinds.
Kevin and his wife, Karen, have four children and two grandchildren. Three of their sons are Eagle Scouts.
We look forward to the continued impact Kevin will make as he drives Scouting’s mission forward.
Yours in Scouting,
James Accomando | Council President
Gene Waring | Council Commissioner
Matt Adams | CST-13 Director & Interim Scout Executive
