As many of you are aware, Governor Lamont recently declared a civil preparedness emergency due to prolonged dry weather conditions, prohibiting open fires. A significant threat of wildfires continues across Connecticut. Further, the Commissioner of DEEP issued an order prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of fame outdoors in all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas. Until those bans are lifted, open fires of any form are prohibited outdoors at Camp Sequassen or Hoyt Scout Reservation. Use of charcoal at Council camps is included in this prohibition.
Use of propane stoves for cooking is permitted as long as there is direct supervision by a knowledgeable adult, the cooking area is free of combustible materials including leaves, there are water filled buckets or water hoses in the immediate vicinity of the cooking area, and the cooking stoves are operated on metal stands or metal tables.
There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy!
