OCEANOGRAPHY
TIME: 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. COST: $57 ($38 FOR MEMBERS)
The oceans cover more than 70 percent of our planet and are the dominant feature of Earth. Wherever you live, the oceans influence the weather, the soil, the air, and the geography of your community. To study the oceans is to study Earth itself. Taking advantage of the unique Aquarium settings, classroom lectures, lab activities, microscopes, and RV cruise (must be 42″ tall), participants will conduct experiments to examine two sample sites, measure ocean water salinity, observe waves and organism found in each habitat. Classroom lectures will cover topics needed to address the MB requirements. All students are required to construct and bring a Plankton Net, to be used aboard the RV cruise. FISH & WILDLIFE
TIME: 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. COST: $57 ($38 FOR MEMBERS)
Wildlife management is the science and art of managing the wildlife—both animals and fish—with which we share our planet. Maintaining the proper balance and the dynamics that go with it requires humankind’s attention. We want our descendants to have the opportunity to experience the same animal diversity that we now enjoy. Taking advantage of the unique Aquarium settings, classroom lectures, lab activities, fish dissection and 30-minute walking tour of the area around the Aquarium, participants will study animals and fish by observing organisms found in each habitat. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
TIME: 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. COST: $57 ($38 FOR MEMBERS)
Environmental Science is an advance MB. While earning the Environmental Science merit badge, Scouts will get a taste of what it is like to be an environmental scientist, making observations and carrying out experiments to investigate the natural world. Taking advantage of the unique Aquarium setting classroom lectures, activities, and RV cruise (must be 42″ tall), participants will conduct experiments to examine two sample sites, measure environmental conditions and organism found in each habitat. Additional research of address MB requirements can be found in the Aquarium exhibits those scouts will review.
*Special rank qualifications to attend: Environmental Science MB is an advanced class and Eagle required MB. As such, participants should have earned the rank of First Class Scout or above to qualify for the class. The Environmental Science MB will NOT be awarded in a single session. Following the MB class activities at the Maritime Aquarium, the scout is responsible to complete all BSA MB requirements, including written and verbal responses for review along with a 1 hr interactive phone interview by MB counselor with the MB candidate to satisfy all BSA requirements to complete the Environmental Science MB.
The Merit Badge (MB) classes offered will cover the topic information needed for a scout to individually address the BSA MB requirements while taking advantage of the unique setting, resources and class activities at the Maritime Aquarium. Each scout must complete all the MB requirements as written to earn the selected MB. Each scout should acquire and read the MB Book in advance of the class and obtain a signed Blue Card from his scoutmaster. Additional information will be communicated to the scouts by the respective MB counselor, prior to the date of the MB course.
Please be advised, BSA MB work effort standards are enforced. A Scout’s individual work efforts and participation in class will be evaluated to determine if he can complete the MB or receive a MB partial credit. Please note, attendance at the MB class alone is not sufficient to receive a signed and completed MB Blue Card.
Event Date SUNDAY March 20th 2022 @ Maritime Aquarium, full day in the aquarium and includes RVS boat ride and tours of the museum exhibits.
